ROPA Method, also known as Shared Motherhood, is an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process specifically designed for women couples, in which “eggs from one of the partners” are used to establish an emotional bond in the motherhood process.
ROPA is a highly effective technique involving fertilizing eggs from one partner with donor sperm and then transferring the embryo to the uterus of the other partner. This allows both women to actively participate in the conception and birth of their child. The biological mother contributes the genetic composition through her eggs, while the gestational mother carries the pregnancy to term.
The chances of pregnancy are excellent, as the embryo develops in sync with the optimal uterine lining. However, it’s important to note that the age of the woman providing the eggs greatly influences the success of the treatment. The choice of who will be the biological mother and who will be the gestational mother depends on the couple’s personal decision, always considering medical advice.
When Is This Procedure Indicated?
ROPA Method is ideal for same-sex women couples who want to actively share the experience of motherhood and become key participants in the reproductive process. This can be a personal choice or motivated by medical reasons related to either of the partners. Some of the cases where it’s indicated include:

Assessing Ovarian Reserve

Stages of In Vitro Fertilization
Controlled Ovarian Stimulation
During a treatment cycle, FSH and LH hormones are administered to stimulate the ovaries for egg production.
This is carefully monitored through ultrasounds to ensure proper follicle development.
Oocyte Retrieval
When the follicles have reached the desired size and number, an ovarian puncture is performed to retrieve the oocytes.
This outpatient procedure is done under sedation and allows you to quickly return to your normal activities.
Oocyte Fertilization
The retrieved oocytes are fertilized with sperm, either from the partner or a donor, through conventional IVF or ICSI.
Embryo Transfer
Carefully selected developed embryos are transferred to the uterus under ultrasound guidance.
We prepare the gestational partner’s endometrium to ensure successful implantation.
Embryo Vitrificatio
Quality embryos not transferred are preserved through vitrification, ensuring the possibility of future attempts.
